It's an important issue about the future of our city & it really matters.
Tonight I attended the Ogden City Council meeting.
There I met an involved citizen, Donna Stevenson, who gave comments on a pressing issue currently going through the channels of the city.
It's an issue that really needs anyone who is concerned to call the city now & tell them your thoughts because the decision is being mulled now.
The issue is Accessory Dwelling Units.
ADU's are rooms that people rent out of their homes to single individuals. ADU's are popular around Weber State for the college students.
ADU's are a way a family can help raise their income & many people find it helpful to the family to have a responsible adult staying with them. Housing college students has been a part of our society for a long time & it benefits us all.
The city is going to ban ADU's. No longer will people be able to rent to other people in Ogden. If you want somewhere to live you must rent from mega apartments & many of these are under control of a school or Government entity in some form.
It's just one more step in the gentrification of Ogden. Sanitation of our community that prides itself on taking care of it's own. It's moving the community into cookie cutter dwellings & mindsets.
There are people who want to turn Ogden into a sanitized & over regulated bedroom community held in the grip of Home Owners Associations. They want to push out the poor & the unusual. They want to push minorities out by raising Property Taxes.
I see a Ogden that grows through Tourism, Entertainment & emphases of our unique Culture. Our city has more value as unusual than conforming.
Please call City Hall & ask them to not approve this horrible ban on ADU's.
Once we ban them it will be hard to get them back.
